We have long observed and realized that the root cause of suffering of all living beings is desire and attachment. The reason why sentient beings have all kinds of desires and attachments is because they all live in the attachment to self, that is, they all have the four aspects of self, person, sentient being and life.
Therefore, the Buddha repeatedly told us in the Diamond Sutra that as a great bodhisattva who practices the Way, one should not have the four aspects of self, others, sentient beings, and life in one’s mind, and one should also give rise to the mind without dwelling on anything.
The mind that develops attachment to form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma. Therefore, when we live in this world, we must understand that “we can be present and we can leave, and our mind should have no attachments.” That’s right.
You should all remember: “If your heart is good, everything will be good.”
2. When all kinds of negative emotions arise in our hearts, we should tell ourselves at the first time that these negative emotions are toxins in the mind, so I have to unload them from my heart one by one, that is, Let them go in your heart. If we still can’t let go for the time being, we can also try to replace these negative emotions with positive emotions. Of course, if you can truly realize what we often say, “complete compliance and complete letting go,” perhaps these negative emotions will naturally disappear without a trace in an instant.
3. There are certainly many negative emotions, and the negative emotions that most people often have include: fear, worry, anger, sadness, guilt, self-blame, greed, pride, arrogance, self-abandonment, etc.
4. Positive emotions include: courage, tolerance, acceptance, understanding, love, gratitude, forgiveness, compassion, altruism, joy, tranquility, peace, serenity, freedom, etc. We found that “courage” is a key point here. As long as you have courage, negative emotions will be less likely to arise. As long as you have courage and unconditional love or compassion in your heart, it will be almost impossible for negative emotions to arise in your heart.
5. To change a person’s destiny in life, the fundamental approach is to start by changing one’s heart. Of course, you should have self-awareness as to whether your heart is good or bad. You should all remember: “If your heart is good, everything will be good.”
6. Everyone knows the saying: “Every day is a good day.” In fact, what is good is not the day but your heart.
7. Everyone knows that “when a tree gets old, its roots rot first; when a person gets old, his legs weaken first”, and your calf is your second heart. Therefore, we do simple “light jogging in place” activities every day. Stand and jog lightly on the spot. The number of steps per minute is about 180 to 210. Run for ten to fifteen minutes each time, and run two to three times a day. If you are interested, you can also try to run it! But don’t force yourself. The key to running is to land on the forefoot first, which is less likely to injure the knee joints. Remember to run with a smile on your face. After running, it would be best to massage your knees and calves as well.
8. Here I will also teach you a very simple standing posture exercise. This is a technique that was taught to me by an old Taoist priest when I was in middle school. Stand with your feet slightly wider than your shoulders and your toes slightly turned inward. His hands are in front of his chest as if he is holding a ball. The old Taoist priest said that this is a Tai Chi posture. Try to relax your whole body. Keep your head straight, neck upright, and chin retracted. Press the coccyx downward, lift the perineum upward, and retract the lower abdomen inward.
Drop your shoulders and elbows, and straighten your back. Just squat with your knees slightly bent. During the whole process, remind yourself at all times to relax your whole body as much as possible. Close your mouth lightly, lick the upper palate with your tongue, and look straight ahead, as if you are not really looking. There is no time limit, the longer you stand, the better the effect, but don’t force it. Our habit is about twenty to forty minutes at a time. We also hope that you can try to stand here if you have time! But don’t force it.
